Michael Randel is the founder and Director of Randel Consulting Associates, an award-winning consulting firm that works with leaders and their teams as they face the challenges of change and growth. Since founding the firm in 2010, Michael’s support for leaders has enabled them to lead change with Calm and Confidence.
Over the last 35 years, Michael has worked with leaders facing disruptive change and challenges. Beginning his career in South Africa, he supported organizations as they faced the demise of apartheid and the emergence of a new, democratic, society—one that required the establishment of new forms of corporate citizenship and democratic workplaces. He subsequently worked in a global organization with operations in more than 140 countries, equipping leaders to adopt collaboration and team technologies that transformed team performance and accelerated results and impact.
Since launching his company more than 15 years ago, Michael has partnered with small and large companies, including Astra Zeneca, Columbia University, NASA, Novartis, the United Nations, and the World Bank as they navigate disruptive environments and complex stakeholder relationships. His support for leaders enables them to chart a path through turbulent settings, engage and enroll their staff in the work of change, and deliver results that exceed expectations.
Michael frequently speaks on topics of leadership, collaboration, teaming, psychological safety, and change. He leads engaging programs and workshops, whether in person or virtually, at national and international conferences as well as for in-house professional development programs.
Michael enjoys writing in ways that illuminate tough topics and provide bridges to action. From a best-selling series of handbooks on planning and managing change projects (sadly, now out of print!) to the RCA Change and Growth Newsletter, he has a knack for speaking to the challenges experienced by leaders, helping them find meaning in the complexities of managing organizations in change, and sharing practices and tools that enable them to put new insights into practice.
Michael’s love for language means that no metaphor is safe from being put to work to illustrate lessons about change!
Michael has been recognized as a Master Facilitator by the International Association of Facilitators, the global authority on facilitation practice. His work with leaders has been presented with several global Facilitation Impact Awards, including the prestigious Platinum Award for a multi-year initiative that brought about partnership and collaboration amongst a group of previously competitive organizations.
He has also received recognition as a “Top 100 Global Thought Leader in Trustworthy Business” for his track record in transforming companies divided by conflict and competition into collaborative workspaces characterized by high trust cultures.
While he values the importance of real-world on-the-job learning experience, Michael has deepened his formal education with graduate qualifications in Social and Organizational Learning. He is also a graduate of the renowned International Gestalt Organization and Leadership Development (IGOLD), the leading global program on change for leaders, teams, and organizations.
Working from the suburbs of Washington, D.C., Michael loves to travel across the U.S.A. and around the world. He has lived in, worked, or visited over 30 countries, and remains deeply curious about the diverse cultures and societies that make up the world we share.
