Technology expense management provider introduces three-tiered solution to help organizations tackle shadow IT and optimize SaaS investments.

In Brief

  • Expanded SaaS oversight. Calero launches a platform for SaaS visibility, control and optimization.
  • Immediate IT benefits. Solution targets overworked IT teams via quick integration and low-cost value.
  • Tech leader impact. CIOs and IT managers gain tools to address shadow IT, cut waste and improve SaaS spend efficiency.

Calero introduced a new SaaS Management Platform on July 29, designed to help organizations manage their growing software-as-a-service environments. The Rochester, NY-based company's offering aims to provide IT departments with tools for visibility, control and optimization of SaaS applications.

The platform addresses what company officials call a significant challenge for many organizations: the proliferation of "shadow SaaS" applications brought into businesses by end users without IT or procurement oversight. This decentralized adoption can create data silos, redundancies and security risks.

The solution is structured to integrate with existing systems and provide what the company asserts is "immediate value" without requiring significant additional work from IT teams.

Impacted Audiences for SaaS Management Platform

  • IT leaders and managers overseeing technology environments
  • Finance and procurement teams managing technology expenses
  • Organizations with decentralized SaaS adoption patterns

Enterprise IT Governance and Shadow IT Challenges

Enterprise IT departments face mounting pressure to control sprawling technology ecosystems while sharing responsibility with employees across decentralized organizations.

Calero has over 30 years in telecommunications and mobility management, and expanded into the SaaS management space in 2022 with the release of its SaaS Expense Management solution. Today's launch aims to address challenges in maintaining visibility across increasingly complex technology environments.

The proliferation of SaaS applications in recent years has created significant management hurdles for IT teams and also impacted workplace productivity. Shadow IT emerged as an issue once the bar for IT procurement lowered to a credit card and an email account. Employees procured solutions outside of traditional workplace channels in an effort to increase their own productivity, in many cases not knowing the potential risk they raised with their actions.

Industry experts caution that poor information management practices — including duplicated content and inconsistent permissions — complicate effective technology governance. These issues are compounded by security concerns as organizations must determine what information crosses firewalls and where data resides.

With remote work normalizing and SaaS adoption accelerating, IT departments struggle to maintain the same level of oversight they once had. According to Calero, its platform addresses these challenges through three modules focused on visibility, control and optimization, potentially allowing organizations to manage their SaaS ecosystem without increasing headcount.

The solution enters a market where extensive ranges of SaaS applications for various business functions have become standard, creating integration and management complexities that specialized tools seek to resolve.

Many leaders recognize they have a significant SaaS management problem but are unsure where to start. Inaction comes at a cost.
