Security firm introduces recovery solution for organizations facing unintended consequences from autonomous AI systems.

In Brief

  • AI agent error reversal — Organizations can undo unwanted AI agent actions.
  • Enhanced visibility — Context-rich audit trails give insight into AI agent behavior.
  • Enterprise risk mitigation — IT and security leaders reduce disruption from AI errors.

Rubrik announced the launch of Agent Rewind on August 12. The new solution aims to help organizations undo mistakes made by AI agents by providing visibility into agent actions and enabling enterprises to rewind changes to applications and data.

The product launch builds on the capabilities Rubrik acquired with its buy of Predibase, which finalized on the same day. Agent Rewind addresses growing concerns about AI agent errors by making previously opaque AI actions visible, auditable and reversible through audit trails and immutable snapshots.

AI Agent Momentum Comes With AI Agent Challenges

Organizations across industries have begun deploying agentic AI for complex workflows. Thomson Reuters uses the technology for legal due diligence, while McKinsey reported reducing client onboarding time through AI agent implementation. Microsoft 365, Salesforce, ServiceNow, Glean and Asana have also integrated agentic capabilities into their tools.

However, Gartner predicts nearly 40% of agentic AI projects will fail by 2027, citing high implementation costs, unclear return on investment and inadequate risk management as primary factors.

The market faces additional challenges from "agent washing," where vendors rebrand existing automation tools as true AI agents. This practice complicates vendor evaluation for enterprise buyers seeking genuine agentic capabilities.

Despite implementation challenges, some organizations report notable gains. Amazon, Siemens and DHL have documented double-digit improvements in sales performance and cost reduction through agentic AI deployments.Yet concerns persist around ethical implications, training data bias and security vulnerabilities, particularly in critical infrastructure applications. Observability platforms and AI governance frameworks are becoming essential for monitoring and securing autonomous systems.

With Rubrik's acquisition of Predibase, the company has positioned itself in the market by focusing on data protection and recovery. The company has evolved from data backup to addressing broader AI implementation challenges.

Successful AI implementation requires addressing both technical and human factors. Industry experts emphasize that human oversight remains crucial, especially as agentic AI begins handling strategic business decisions. The technology aims to enhance human capabilities rather than replace workers entirely.Organizations preparing for agentic AI deployment should focus on digital infrastructure readiness, conduct rigorous proofs of concept and establish clear governance boundaries before implementation.

As AI agents gain autonomy and optimize for outcomes, unintended errors can lead to business downtime.
