M-Files launches three purpose-built apps for tax, quality and contracts, as enterprises move away from one-size-fits-all AIs for document management.

Context-first document management is reshaping how enterprises handle compliance-heavy workflows — and M-Files is betting big on industry-specific applications.

M-Files today launched three purpose-built applications — M-Files for Tax Advisory, M-Files for Quality and M-Files for Contracts. Built on M-Files' AI-native architecture, the applications use knowledge graphs to connect documents with related people, projects and compliance requirements, according to company officials.

Organizations can start with one application and expand without re-platforming.  The company plans to extend its Industry Solutions portfolio further into professional services, manufacturing and other regulated industries.

We’re scaling M-Files into a portfolio of industry-specific solutions designed to accelerate customer outcomes. With our new Industry Solutions, we’re delivering more targeted, high-impact value to customers.

A Move Away From One-Size-Fits-All AI

Today's M-Files launch reflects a trend away from using broad AI models in the workplace towards systems tailored for a specific industry or function. These models are grounded in domain-specific data and standards to increase the accuracy and quality of agent performance. Such applications can perform compliance checks because they are trained on the specific regulations for their vertical, such as HIPAA for health care or SOX compliance for financial.

It's a trend Alan Pelz-Sharpe of Deep Analysis highlighted earlier this year: "Unless you are a hyperscaler with limitless budgets, generic horizontal platforms are commercial dead ends. Buyers are no longer purchasing “information management” or even “Agentic AI” — they are procuring a highly specific fix for a highly specific, often painful, business breakpoint."

What's Inside M-Files Industry Solutions

Ville Somppi, M-Files SVP of Industry Solutions, said the new tools reflect how customers already work, while reinforcing governance. Today's launch caters to three industries.

How M-Files Evolved Its Document Management Platform in 2025

M-Files pushed customers steadily towards the M-Files desktop throughout 2025, adding feature parity to make the transition from the classic client easier. Milestones included the launch of AI-powered automatic metadata setting via M-Files Aino in February, native Desktop Co-authoring in March and Visual Workflows in June alongside a new tool to simplify the technical migration to the new client.

July 2025, M-Files became the first document management system to natively store content within Microsoft 365 via SharePoint Embedded, enabling native co-authoring and unified security through Microsoft Purview policies. The company extended the partnership in March 2026 with the launch of new experiences for Microsoft 365 Copilot and Microsoft 365 Copilot Agent Builder, making it possible for Microsoft 365 Copilot to access M-Files content directly, with results respecting existing M-Files permissions.

September brought the launch of Workspaces — a context-first experience giving users a unified view of related projects, documents and people, built on M-Files' metadata architecture. The final months of 2025 saw the additions of the Sharing Center for external collaboration, customizable Workspace tabs and automatic versioning for co-authored documents.

The company earned Gartner Peer Insights Customers' Choice recognition and was named a Strong Performer in the Forrester Wave for Content Platforms.
