Cornerstone OnDemand, a leading cloud-base learning and human capital management software provider, today announced its acquisition of immersive learning platform provider Talespin. The buy will bring Talespin's immersive learning and simulated real-world scenarios to Cornerstone's robust learning offerings.
About Talespin
Talespin's extended reality (XR) learning and talent development platform encompasses virtual, augmented and mixed reality learning experiences which can be tailored for individual needs or used out of the box. About Cornerstone
Established in 1999 and headquartered in Santa Monica, California, Cornerstone provides organizations around the world with solutions for learning management, performance management, career development, enterprise engagement and recruiting. The company's cloud-based approach allows clients to deliver personalized learning experiences, track employee progress, and make data-driven decisions to optimize performance and drive business outcomes. Cornerstone is available in 180 countries and languages, serving over 7,000 customers and more than 125 million users.
Cornerstone Integrates Customizable XR Learning Technology
The acquisition comes shortly after Apple released its Vision Pro "spatial computer." As has been the case with Apple products before, analysts expect the release to bring extended reality into the mainstream. Talespin and its nearest competitor, Strivr, both launched in 2015 to bring virtual reality learning experiences into the enterprise.
Talespin’s XR learning capabilities are already available within Cornerstone's Content Subscriptions. Customers can customize their learning and development initiatives with immersive training tools and AI-generated learning modules. The companies expect the tools to help employee training and upskilling initiatives across a range of industries. Additionally, the platform integrates real-time analytics so organizations can understand performance rates and the impact of learning programs.
The buy also includes Talespin Designer, an AI-powered, no-code XR content authoring tool. With Designer, customers can create customized XR simulations for conversational learning, without the need for coding or animation skills. Users will be able to practice role playing various workplace scenarios through XR simulations with the use of virtual characters and environments. Features of the authoring tool include a scene editor, flow editor, performance editor and content publishing capabilities. No special hardware is required to experience Talespin's content, as it is available on desktops via browser-based streaming, while it works on Meta Quest, Apple Vision Pro and other leading VR head-mounted displays.
Cornerstone will additionally be adding Talespin's AI Lab, a generative AI immersive learning labs services focused on speeding content creation, improving analytics and creating more robust learning experiences.
"Talespin's work on creating the next generation of mixed reality experiences is something we also look forward to the potential of bringing to market in the enterprise learning space," Karthik Suri, Cornerstone’s chief product officer, told Reworked.
Immersive Learning = Hands On Experience
Learning in virtually realistic environments with contextually relevant conversations and modules can enhance the ability to acquire and apply new skills, gain deeper understanding, and navigate real-world scenarios with confidence and proficiency. Introducing new possibilities for rethinking work, career pathing and organizational enhancement, Suri said immersive experiences provide value in areas such as:
- Hands-on experience and a tangible visual workflow — immersive simulations are powerful for skills development.
- Conversational improvements — simulations enable employees to practice interactions in a safe place to fail, dramatically improving outcomes in the real world.
- Identify required skills.
- Growth opportunities customized to the organization’s strategy and culture.
