HR technology provider Darwinbox receives another round of funding to expand its AI-powered human capital management platform's presence in North America.

In Brief

  • New investment partnership. Darwinbox secures $40 million from Teachers' Venture Growth.
  • Expansion and innovation. Funds target North American growth and agentic AI development.
  • Enterprise HR impact. Darwinbox's global expansion provides HR technology leaders with AI-driven alternatives to legacy HCM suites.

Darwinbox, an AI-powered human capital management platform, secured a $40 million investment from Teachers' Venture Growth (TVG), the late-stage venture arm of Ontario Teachers' Pension Plan. The company will use the funding to accelerate its North American expansion and advance development of AI-driven HR technology.

The investment comes as Darwinbox has experienced significant growth since entering the North American market, according to company officials. The India-founded company currently serves over 1,000 enterprises and 4 million employees across 130 countries.

This follows a $140 million funding round led by Partners Group and KKR in March 2025, with TVG acquiring its stake through both primary and secondary transactions.

Where Darwinbox Fits in HR Technology Space

AI is fundamentally transforming how HR departments approach talent management, with organizations seeking solutions that directly link workforce strategies to business performance. Talent acquisition vendors specifically are incorporating AI to help customers gain efficiency and scale, reduce time to hire, hiring costs and enhance hire quality.

Darwinbox has its work cut out for it as it looks to expand in the crowded North American market. The company competes with established players like Workday, Oracle, iCIMS, Cornerstone and SAP, as well as newer entrants including  Rippling, Deel, BambooHR and Phenom.

The timing reflects broader momentum in the market. In the first half of 2025 alone, HR tech companies — primarily those with a focus on AI integrations — secured $3.5 billion in funding globally, with AI-powered recruitment, payroll automation and agentic AI solutions driving investment, according to HR Executive

Darwinbox Background

Founded in 2015 in Hyderabad, India by Chaitanya Peddi, Jayant Paleti, Rohit Chennamaneni and Vineet Singh, Darwinbox first established its presence in Asia and the Middle East, before expanding globally through big-name enterprise customers including Starbucks, Cigna and Nivea.

The cloud-based human capital management (HCM) platform manages the entire employee lifecycle, from recruitment and onboarding to performance management and offboarding. The system includes AI and machine learning features as well as a mobile-first experience.

Darwinbox was recognized as a Visionary earlier this year in the first edition of Gartner's Magic Quadrant for Talent Acquisition Suites. The authors noted the company's outcome-focused orientation and market-responsive product strategy, highlighting the stand-alone offering of its recruitment module as a differentiator against competitors such as Workday and Oracle that require full-suite purchases. The report also noted the company's limited presence in North America, a focus for the recent funding rounds.

Unlike most HCMs, Darwinbox actively supports stand-alone recruiting buyers (i.e., you do not have to purchase any other offerings in the portfolio). Darwinbox has successfully built recruiting into its domain of expertise and can support complex hiring needs, along with included bonus capabilities, such as budget headcounts, interview intelligence and an opportunity marketplace.

Gartner Magic Quadrant for Talent Acquisition Suites

Darwinbox had previously been named a Challenger by the analyst firm in its 2024 Magic Quadrant for Cloud HCM Suites for 1,000+ Employee Enterprises.

The company claims its pricing makes it attractive to buyers, with a 40% lower total cost of ownership than the "Workdays of the world."

Darwinbox's Current Focus for AI in HR

According to company officials, Darwinbox is advancing several key innovations in the HR technology space:

Impacted Audiences for Darwinbox's Expansion

  • HR technology decision-makers at mid-to-large enterprises — Darwinbox's strategy and potential lower cost of ownership makes this an attractive alternative for budget conscious HR tech leaders.
  • Global organizations seeking AI-powered alternatives to legacy HR systems — The company is expressly looking to challenge "long-standing industry incumbents built on legacy solutions," according to co-founder Jayant Paleti
