The embedded agent system automates reporting, scheduling and payroll checks while operating within existing HR permissions and compliance rules.

In Brief

  • BambooHR announced Bamboo AI, a set of AI agents built into its HR platform.

  • The agents follow whatever access rules and permissions a company already has set up.

  • One early customer says a report that took 15-20 minutes now takes 20 seconds.

BambooHR today introduced Bamboo AI, a set of AI agents built directly into its HR platform that can do actions like generate reports, build shift schedules and check payroll for errors. The Draper, Utah-based company said the goal was to help HR leaders and teams move faster without adding manual work.

Bamboo AI is currently in private beta with a select group of customers. Early customers reported time savings through use of the tool. Renata Grantham, manager of people technology at Derivco, said: "The manual way of doing this in BambooHR used to take 15 to 20 minutes. With the report assistant, it took 20 seconds to generate the same report."

What Bamboo AI Can Actually Do

Five capabilities make up the initial release, each built to replace a manual HR task with a typed request:

Capability

Description

AI Report Generation

Generates report previews and custom reports via natural language prompts

Schedule Building

Builds and assigns recurring shifts using conversational language

Payroll Analysis

Compares payroll periods to detect anomalies and differences

Benefits Assistance

Lets employees inquire about benefits plan details and coverage

MCP Connections

Integrates with ChatGPT, Claude and other AI tools via open protocols

The agents don't get any new or expanded access to company data — they only work within whatever security rules, permissions and approval steps a company has already built into BambooHR. If a manager can't see a piece of employee data today, the AI won't show it to them either.

"Great AI is only as good as the governance and data behind it. Most AI in HR delivers poor results or executes work without limits or controls," said Brian Crofts, Chief Product Officer at BambooHR. Crofts said the company built Bamboo AI to follow the same rules, permissions and roles that already govern a business, so people stay in control of what the AI does.
