Global job-search engine Indeed today launched in general availability its new AI-powered Smart Sourcing capabilities to speed the hiring process for both employers and job seekers. When used in tandem with the updated Indeed Profiles, Smart Sourcing matches candidates to more relevant job opportunities while surfacing active, qualified job seekers for prospective employers.
What Smart Sourcing Brings for Employers
The AI-powered Smart Sourcing recommends appropriate candidates pulled from the profiles and resumes of the nearly 300 million profiles found on Indeed. The tool surfaces people for review based on their matched skills, experiences and qualifications, and provides brief summaries under "Candidate Highlights" explaining what specifically about the candidate's qualifications and profile caused the tool to recommend them.
The tool further shows employers who the most active job candidates are, based on the job seeker's behavior on the platform, to avoid wasting time on candidates who are not actively job hunting. The company also suggests the tool can reduce reliance on certain biases, such as expectations for college degrees, by highlighting the skillset of candidates that make them a fit for a role.
When a hiring manager wants to move forward with a candidate, the tool has options to use AI to draft emails and schedule interviews.
If some of the functionality of Smart Sourcing sounds familiar, that's because it is. It combines the already available resume search with the match candidates product into one experience.
Beyond the Smart Sourcing capabilities, the company also launched built-in collaboration capabilities within the platform so hiring teams can interact within a "Projects" tab to take and share notes, post updates on progress and share and request feedback on candidates.
Indeed Profiles Updates
Indeed Profiles are also getting an update, with changes promised in the coming months to help job seekers showcase their work experience, skills and preferences, as well as receive more personalized and relevant job recommendations. With over more than 40,000 different types of skills and AI-powered profile suggestions, job seekers can better represent themselves professionally and tailor their job recommendations.
Some of the forthcoming profile features include:
- Work Experience Writer — An analytic tool that can suggest up to 50 relevant work experience bullets based on the provided job title. This feature is expected in May 2024.
- Multi-Resume — Save and access up to five versions of your resume within Indeed profile.
- Employer Connect — Let employers know you are looking for work and available to connect with the use of a new toggle feature.
Profiles will also now include candidate's preferences such as being open to relocation, preferring hybrid work, timing for availability and more.
Fine-Tuning the Hiring and Recruitment Process
The company states the Smart Sourcing beta testers saw a proficiency increase of 30%.
Indeed was last in the news in September with the release of its AI Job Description Generator, based on OpenAI's GPT and Indeed's own AI model. The tool produces job descriptions based on hiring manager's responses to a series of prompts.
The launches come at a time when AI's use in hiring is coming under increased scrutiny and regulation, with more laws seeking to follow the AI Bias Law passed by NYC in 2023.
