In Brief
- BI WORLDWIDE buys WorkTango.
- WorkTango keeps its name, team and product.
- Deal ends Vista Equity Partners' ownership of WorkTango.
Global employee engagement and customer loyalty firm BI WORLDWIDE has acquired employee experience platform WorkTango, the companies announced today. WorkTango will keep its name, team and product and operate as a subsidiary of Minneapolis-based BIW. Terms were not disclosed.
The immediate change for customers is on the rewards side. WorkTango will move its fulfillment onto BIW's rewards marketplace, which the company says reaches participants in more than 200 countries. Mid-market WorkTango clients gain access to a wider catalog of milestone awards, experiences and events than the platform previously offered on its own. For BIW, the buy provides an inroad into mid-market HR buyers without building the product itself.
WorkTango's 'AI Innovations' a Deciding Factor
Gary Hansen, WorkTango's board chair and a recently retired BIW COO, pointed to WorkTango's recent AI work as a driver of the deal. Over the past two years WorkTango has embedded generative AI across its survey product: with comment summarization in 2024, thematic analysis later that year, and in April 2026 a tool called WorkTango Coach that answers plain-language questions about survey data and drafts manager action plans. A May 2026 release added Microsoft Teams integration, survey localization in 30 languages and self-serve SSO — features aimed squarely at the multinational IT buyers BIW already sells to.
The deal also lands two days before WorkTango's scheduled July 22 launch of Constellation, an AI-moderated group conversation tool that runs multiple employee discussions in parallel and surfaces themes from the results. WorkTango is pitching it for moments when surveys move too slowly — post-layoff, mid-merger, or when a team has gone quiet. The rollout will now happen under BIW ownership.
An Exit for Vista Equity Partners
For Vista Equity Partners, the sale marks the end of an eight-year run. Vista merged YouEarnedIt and HighGround as Kazoo after acquiring both in 2018. Kazoo in turn bought the original WorkTango in 2022 and took its name.
